Price Statement on Sotomayor Confirmation

Justice Must Be Blind

Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement in response to Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

“Justice Sotomayor should be congratulated on her elevation to the Supreme Court,” said Chairman Price. “Yet, as a nation, we must also take this opportunity to reflect on the nature of our judiciary.

“Americans rightly take pride in the fact that our system of justice is based on equality under the law. Indeed, we often remark that justice is blind. At times, however, Justice Sotomayor’s record shows a disturbing lack of impartiality. Constitutional principles should never take a back seat to empathy or a lack of objectivity.

“As she now holds a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land, we can only hope and pray that she will be conscious at all times of the need to remain impartial in her rulings and the imperative of not legislating from the bench.”
